Exploring the Ocean and Everything It Has To Offer
There is something about putting your face beneath the surface of the sea that makes an ordinary beach day feel like an adventure out of this world!
From above, you might see nothing more than clear blue water, a few rocks and perhaps a glimpse of something moving below almost like shadows dancing under water. But put on a mask, dip your head under and suddenly there is another world waiting for you.
Colourful fish, coral, rocks, caves, sea life and sometimes a turtle quietly going about its day.
The best thing is you don’t necessarily need to be an experienced diver or snorkeler to discover the underwater world.
There’s another world beneath the ocean….Explore!
Snorkelling has always felt like one of the simplest ways to explore the ocean. There is no complicated equipment and no need to disappear deep beneath the water. You can simply float on the surface, look down and see what is happening underneath you. Some of the best moments can happen in surprisingly shallow water and especialy if you go slow and let the water glide you along at its own speed.
Some of the best views are underwater
When we think about beautiful travel views, we often think about sunsets, mountains, beaches and viewpoints.
But some of the most amazing views can be the ones you only see after putting your head underwater.
The light changes. The colours change. Everything becomes quieter. It’s a beautiful way to relax and forget the daily events.
You start noticing little things that you might never see from the beach — tiny fish moving through the rocks, coral formations, seaweed swaying with the current and the occasional much bigger visitor passing by.
It’s one of those travel experiences where you don’t necessarily need to be doing anything complicated.
You just need to stop, float and look.
And snorkelling isn’t the only way to enjoy the water
One of the great things about coastal and island travel is how many different ways there are to get into the water. You might spend the morning snorkelling, then go for a swim, take a kayak around the coastline or try paddle-boarding. There are also opportunities for diving, exploring rocky coastline, searching around rock pools or simply swimming in clear water.
Sometimes the best days are the ones where you simply follow the coastline and see what you find.
The great thing about smaller islands or coastline destinations is how much you can discover without constantly needing a boat.
You can walk to a different beach, treck, hike and explore to swim along the coastline, snorkel from the shore or explore rocks and little coves.
You can also have alone time to experience the beauty of nature and what the coastline shores have to offer.
The more time you spend around marine life, the more you realise that you’re entering someone else’s environment.
That’s where responsible snorkelling comes in.
Look and enjoy from a distance, don’t touch anything, try not to disturb or stand on coral and watch from afar without chasing fish or turtles. Give marine life plenty of space and be aware of where your fins -if you wear them, are going. You can have an incredible encounter without interfering with what you’re seeing. In fact, sometimes the best experience is simply floating quietly and watching.
The ocean is there to be enjoyed
You don’t need to be an expert swimmer, diver or marine biologist to appreciate what’s beneath the surface.
You just need curiosity.
There might be a whole other world waiting for you.
And once you’ve seen it, you might find yourself looking at the ocean a little differently.
